We receive our horses in a number of ways. Friends and contacts in the horse community contact us about  horses they have come across who have been neglected and abused. Some have been surrendered by owners who can no longer afford to care for their horse. Sometimes we receive a call about a healthy horse that is about to be sent for
slaughter. The only horses we cannot rescue are those who are so seriously ill that they cannot be restored to
health, or those horses that are dangerous and cannot be managed safely.
We believe that the most important aspect of the horse rescue is the horse. Anyone who feels that they can no longer care for their horse needs only call us and we will make arrangements to have the horse brought to our facilities. All surrenders are confidential. We often get called on to rescue horses destined for slaughter. These horses are not the old and the lame, these horses are often in the prime of their lives, are saddle broke and could have many good years of life still ahead of them. In these instances we will pay the "meat price" in order to remove them from the slaughterhouse pens. |
